Steam-Era 2014 - Military Vehicles (Photos)

This weekend was the 54th annual Steam-Era show in Milton, Ontario. Steam-Era has typically focused on farm heritage (steam tractors, old tractors, etc) but this year the theme was "military vehicles". A few of us from Southern Ontario showed up. There were about 20 vehicles in total (plus some artillery) and we had a nice spot on the top of a hill overlooking the fairgrounds to set up on. I brought a Stalwart, Willys MB, Pinzgauer and Haflinger. I was planning on taking photos today (the last day) but left my camera at home. So you'll have to suffice with some crappy blackberry photos.

The Stalwart display. For any IPSC/USPSA/UKPSA members, yes, the pieces of cardboard stapled to the pickets are what you think they are. All I had handy.

My only competition in the "amphibious vehicles" department -- a 1945 DUKW. Hopefully we can take this and the Stalwart for a "swim" in a Lake at some point in the future;


Of course, what good is a artillery mover without some guns to go with it? Finnish 40mm Bofors to the front and a 25pdr to the rear;

The Munga -- an interesting vehicle designed for the Bundeswehr in the 1950s;


My Haflinger and the MUTT. The Haflinger was the smallest vehicle there;


Overall it was a great show and a very good way to spend a long weekend. I hope they'll welcome the MVs back next year.

Is that humidity I see? 'Cause last time I was in the Toronto area, pretty much melted. We are semi arid. Good in the summer and even the winter. not so much.

 

You are correct. It was very humid for most of the weekend. Saturday/Sunday was about the hottest its been all summer here -- around 30 degrees with very high humidity. I think the weather forecasters said "feels like 37" or something like that.

 

This was actually the first military vehicle event I've been to. As I said, it was a good way to spend the weekend.
