Does someone know how many [tanks, planes etc (on board of merchant ships)] were lost during the Battle of the Atlantic?

my anser to your question is "sorry but that kind of data doen's exist"
we had a toppic witch was going about the amount of supplies transported to Russia and we didn't found any number. this is a familiar case.

their is a way to find this out but that is to search all (written) documents about the ships by the compagnies who owned them. then we have to put them together and whe have your numbers but is virtually impossible to do because most of those files will probably not exist anymore.

    sorry

    BTW: nice drawing

I have often wondered the same thing. Too bad we will never know the full story.

I think the data does exist though it may take some digging.
The tanks that were loaded aboard ships to be shipped to the USSR and that were sunk on the way are listed in the US lend /lease documents that have been posted on several sites. When I have time I will try to find you a link to one of them. That would account for many of the tanks crosssing the Atlantic, as to the ones bound for Britain I'm not quite sure where that information is found though I recall seeing numbers listed in the past..again some digging would be required.
