The real first confrontation with the Soviet Union and the beginning of the Cold War for the next 40 years. I knew a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force who was part of this airlift as a young two striper..told me a few stories you never read about in the history books and was proud of wearing that gold C-54 attachment on his occupation ribbon.
