The central, upper portion of the wreath is made up of clouds, with a lightning bolt striking the ground. The flying Luftwaffe eagle is incorporated across the wreath and over the clouds. The numbers in the box at the base of the badge represent the number of ground engagements with which the recipient was credited. From either side of the box emanate the tip of an oakleaf over a single leaf. From these, on either side, are seven fans of three oakleaves reducing slightly in width until they meet at the apex, tip to tip. Members of parachute units and assault gun units were authorised to receive the numbered badges.
