The Sherman saw combat in the Korean War. It has also seen action with the Israelis several times. Was it used in action on other occations as well ? Perhaps in Africa, or in South America ?

The chances are yes, becuase after the war, just about every type of tank was sold to countries all over the world.

And I am pretty sure there were seven Shermans used during the Cuban Revolution. I amd 99% sure they were used on the anti-Communist side.

Shermans were definately used in a coup in a South American country.

The Canadian "Sexton" remained in service, in some armies right up to the turn of the century. It was that well constructed and duarable.

The Dutch armoured forces used some Shermans with their "Political actions" after ww2 in attempt to restore order on the Indonesian Isles. By then, these were Dutch colonies and their was some general unrste becasue of that. The Dutch army got there wtih their Shermans...
    But Indonesia gained independence anyway.

The French used the M-24 Chaffee at Dien Bien Phu for certain, they may well have used the Sherman itself in Indochina, I know from reading that they used armour but apart from the Chaffee I haven't come across a direct reference to which type.

I think Israelis used them untill 1970's, and even equipped them with 105 mm guns. Later they sold some of them to Pinochet.

Dutch armies were outfitted with Shermans throughout the 50s and 60s, for lack of better or payable alternatives.

The Sherman (M4A4 as well as various Sherman"Firefly" variants (Ic,IIc IVC, Vc) were extensively used by the Argentine Army from 1947 until 1997-They were deployed in the Sept.. 1951 "coups" saw action in the faled 16 June 1955 "coup', andmilitary revolt of 16-19 September 1955 which brought down the government of Juan D. Peron. They were actively deployed in a series of military confrontations which occurred in Sept. 1962, and in the brief but violent Naval Revolt of 2-3 April 1963. Although supplemented by AMX 13s with FL.12 turrets mounting 105 mm L.44 guns in the late 1960s, the Shermans would continue to soldier on for many years until finally withdrawn from service in 1997. In 1978, when war with Chile appered inminent, over 120 surving Sherman "Firefly" of various marks were fitted with locally-made 105 mm L.44 and fire control systems, as well as 520 hp French-built Poyaud motors. Some with also fitted with bulldozer blades and Israeli-buit "Urdan" mine rollers. Incidentally, Argentina never received any M24s...

The Nicaraguan "Guardia Nacional" received al least three M4E348 Shermans armed with 105 mm howitzers, and these were used in the civil war of 1978-79 which culminated with the overthrow of dictator Anastasio Somoza, and turned Nicaragua into another Communist satelite. One of these tanks is ilustrated in the enclosed photo
