anyone watching the preceeding today/night ? wonder if the outsdie "M:" factions are going to try and create havoc. well anyway hopefully it will be a wonderful games again with much action and close results..... E ~
I'll miss the opening ceremont as be at work. Will be on annual leave for the second week so will be glued to TV. I prefer the Winter Games to the Summe rones, always have. I echo the Good to see you posting again ,Erich
Well no Opening Ceremony tonight and it's almost as riveting as the Slumber Bowl was. I want to see the Down Hill & Slalom crashes
The opening ceremony is great for witnessing the different cultural offerings. Unfortunately, after hours of my wife tuning in I can't take anymore until the Parade of Nations. I'm with you Owen, the winter olympics are much more entertaining. The different sports are fascinating to watch. And yes, I do wake up early in the morning to watch curling.
Glad to hear from you, Erich. I watched a bit on Thursday while we were at my son's because we had no power. I'll watch on and off but I suspect we'll see enough figure skating to last a long time. I want to watch some hockey, luge, and downhill stuff.
Well done to Sage Kotsenburg, first ever Olympic Slopestyle Gold & first of Sochi games to USA. Really enjoyed that , hoped for a UK bronze at one point.
I'm with Biak. That's the only reason for watching the Winter Olympics. (Disclaimer: I do not wish any harm to any of the participants, but I wouldn't mind seeing them simulating a gymnastic floor routine down the ski hill. :eatpopcorn1: )
Great day for UK. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-olympics/26056289 USA got the Gold but for Team GB to get a Bronze on the snow was unheard of until today. Gold medals in other events (on ice) over the years but not on snow.
This made me laugh. Anne Gasser before her first run. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-olympics/26106599
Well he brought home the bronze, so give him a break. He had a lot of stiff competition out there so here's to him. Bring on the curlers!
Did you see Sarka Pancochova's cracked helmet after her fall? That could have been nasty. (Made me think of Schumacher & his accident.) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/winter-olympics/26056289 http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/story/snowboarder-cracks-helmet-in-nasty-slopestyle-spill-020914
Watched the loop of her fall. Ouch! I don't think it an overstatement to say that helmet saved her life.
Seems Sochi is too warm for the games to me. Few problems today on the slopestyle & halfpipe because of melting snow/ice.
so what about this joker: Bobby Illich: How stupid r u Bobby Illich? Or is it a joke ? Read this article : International Business Time By Bobby Ilich on February 11 2014 8:10 AM How has one country dominated what amounts to as a niche sport? The answer is quite clear if you consider the culture of the nation of 16 million. In the Netherlands, skating long distances on ice is a common practice for many, making it only natural they would have interest in distance speed skating in the Olympics. In winter months, skating is a sensible form of transportation, as commuters skate along frozen canals to visit family or friends who live many villages away. Much of the country sits below sea level, so it’s frequently not a particularly arduous journey to travel by skates. The Dutch begin wearing skates as toddlers, so for some, skating is as common as walking. Some travel for hours and hours on their skates and see nothing strange about it. Hajima’s father, Hotze, said he once skated 230 kilometers (142 miles) at the age of 29. He didn’t seem to be boasting about it, just making the case that there was an occasion when it was necessary. Yeah, and all Dutch people walk on wooden shoes…. The most of time temperature is not cold enough to skate at all. The ice needs to be at least 15 cm thick to have a great mass of people to skate on it like in the "Elfstedentocht", the only long-distance skating contest in Holland http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfstedentocht And what does the fact that most of our country is below sea-level to do with this ?? You think we open the dykes to let the water in like a Tsunami or what ? According to Bobby i go on skates to work on my skates for 25 miles (at temperatures about 10 Celcius). Get a life and another job, Bobby. You are a lousy reporter.
