Was it only me, or did others find this moving ? I watched footage recently of the recent ceremonies conducted at various foreign cemeteries to mark the Battle of Paschendael. There stood a great, hulking English teenager who of course never even knew the Great Great Grandfather of his who served in the Royal Engineers and was killed on the first day of the battle. Yet despite this he stood there with tears coursing down his cheeks and literally was struck dumb with grief at the loss of his ancestor. Of course, anyone who has visited these mournful places will inevitably be affected by them, but it is easy to think that todays kids neither know nor care of the deaths of so many fine men of all nationalities all those years ago. Well, that may or not be the case, but here, beyond any doubt, was one kid who clearly did both know and care !!
