    Cruiser was hit by a Kamikaze plane carying two bombs which inflicted heavy damage on thr ''Nashville'' which had been McArthur's flagship before the Phillipines landings of 1944.
    Around 140 crewmen lost their lives with many more injured but ''Nashville. showed the same stubborn will to survive that the USS 'Franklin showed after a similar attack and managed to return to the Puget Sound, W.A. shipyards for full repairs.
    Until then ''USS Nashville'' had been a lucky ship.When a U.S. Navy destroyer was sunk its torpedoes went on rogue walk about narrowly missng the ''Nashville'';
    and she had other narrow shaves in combat before that until off the Phillipines coast her luck ran out in December 1944.
    Still she returned to duty in the Pacific in 1945 and was in a combat situation off the coast of Borneo when the war ended in 1945.
