Hello first post on this forum site . I have recently posted these images elsewhere on the web , but will also share them with you as a introduction . This photo album belonged to a Oberleutenant who served on the Tirpitz as an observer in the Arado 196 float plane ....any thoughts as to his identity would be welcome ..elsewhere we have a firm suggestion as to his name but I would like it fully confirmed .....Its a large album ...if there is interest I will post images over the coming weeks . many thanks jim www.throughtheireyes2.co.uk View attachment 10020 View attachment 10021 View attachment 10022 View attachment 10023 View attachment 10024

excellent pics and congrats on a very rare album most likely one of 2-3 crews as standard on large capital ships first the man was most probably serving in the LW for basic training as the KM had none though it was to be added.......the LW and KM were quite apart in their thinking thanks to their very strange and ill led leadership. secondly after his Km training on Aradaos and probably Heinkel floatplanes he was destined for the KM and served in the observer capicity along with a similar pilot of varied experience. welcome aboard and lets ee some more pics bitte ! Erich ~
Hello Erich ...it has recently been suggested that this man is Wilhelm Rosenbaum who served on the Tirpitz April 1942- March 1944 ...I would love to get this confirmed . The evidence in the album seems to suggest he first serves with the Kriegsmarine ...then goes off for Luftwaffe training to enable him to serve in the Arado . He does his RAD training in 1937 ...does his basic infantry /kriegsmarine training ...and then goes on the masted training ship which I believe is now in the United states . During 1938 -39 ..appears to be a lower rank Naval officer he serves on Linenschiff Schleswig Holstein . There are no photos of his Luftwaffe training ... Very interestingly at rear of album there are some POW photos ,taken at Mulsanne ,Le Mans ,France ...he is pictured in one photo at the end with 5 other men ... of whom are U-boat commanders ..identified as being Horst von Schroeter ,Karl-Heinz Marbach and Alfred Eick . ( the 3 RK winners ) I would really like to fill in the gaps in his service history . jim
the later uniform post war could either be Lw or even KM. it was that common. any pics to show us of his early KM days. yes my post was a bit confusing. KM and LW personell were both trained on seaplanes and notably for the larger capital ships and the Hilfkreuzers KM personell joined the ranks of the LW with opposite rank and served alongside their KM brothers. this is probably still confusing
1938-39 he was on Linienschiff Schleswig Holstein . He also spent time on the tall masted sail training ship ..topically at Porto Prince Haiti .

Well Erich , the latest on the album is that its still in my filing cabinet and high res scans are still available for a very low price on cds . Is that a shameless plug ? If I visited your photo album ( did I ?) it was only to see how the album thing looked ,I did not focus on the images, I thought about uploading some pictures of my own and still finding my way around the forum site and i'm really a bit of a hopeless technophobe . When time I will upload a few more pics from the Tirpitz album . jim
