I am researching for a book. Was it possible to travel between England and France (or Holland or Belgium) in 1940 by air or ferry before the German offensive beginning on May 10th
Yes. Approval of travel was based on your business. Amoung my notes is a magazine articall by a Brit artillery Captain describing a English woman who turned up in his battery area earlier in the spring. She was searching for a soldier whom she thought had married her. The writer thought she was a bit of a "head case" as she had none of the documents an official marriage, military of civil, would provide. After wasting the better part of his day investigating this, he was able to dump her on the military police and get on with his war.
