In all honesty, I kinda feel like the PM (of Turkey) had something to do with this Coup. Set it up to fail, to give him a good excuse to Purge the country of opposition. Seems awfully quick to come up with that many names...especially when only a few hundred soldiers took part in the attempt. Just another Dictator, doing what Dictators do IMHO.

Indeed. There must be plenty of job openings in Turkey at the moment.... shame they never made into the EU.

Erdogan has his 'Reichstag fire' excuse now, and appears to be using it most fulsomely.

The constitutional place of the military in Turkey is fascinating. Not so much an arm of the state as in most other countries. More of a parallel organisation to government with a prime duty to defend secularism.
I don't pretend to grasp it fully, but get the distinct impression Ataturk knew what he was about.

With talks about re-introducing death penalty they will never get in the EU now.

RT was allowed to interview Gulen at his Poconos home the other day... A castle really. Surrounded by video cameras and actual police who guard his residence. There is one way in and one way out with a barrier of sorts where any individual who wishes to pass must show ID and reason for the visit. The guard house which stands by the barrier at the entrance is bigger than some people's homes. The fact that actual police not security guards who are constantly present means he is under protection of the govt. any such interview therefore must be approved from the very top and certainly raises a few questions...

To live in such opulence is quite costly. Where does a Turkish civil servant get that kind of money? Who pays for all of this?

As much as I dislike Erdogan, this was not his doing. No way and no need to. All that's happening currently could have occurred anyway without a coupe. Eitherway, with Turkey officially accusingly the US for this botched coupe, relations are strained.... Time to build even closer bonds with Putin or be isolated completely.

Almost forgot, the pilots who shot down the Russian bomber have also been arrested for participating in the coupe.

Would have never happened anyway. As Sarkozy correctly stated... Geographically Turkey is not in Europe. If Turkey was to become a member than maps will have to be re-drawn and school children would be taught that the borders of Europe extend to Syria. Hard to imagine really. Russia, he continued: in that sense is more European that Turkey.

In this day/age- it seems initial reports from bystanders on social media would show a better picture of a disaster in its early phase.
Looks like gov/media spin /obfuscate information as it gathers.

I think you are getting more than a little carried away.

    1) He was never just a "civil servant" of the Turkish state, but has authored a large number of books, poems, and articles. Some of which have been translated, even into English. Successful authors can afford rather nice living. Or so I'm told.

    2) Google Map view doesn't agree with your characterisation of 1857 Mount Eaton Road, Saylorsburg, PA 18353

    3) The compound you refer to, is run by the trust of the Golden Generation Worship and Retreat Center.

That a Muslim center in the US would need surveillance and protection, who would've imagined that?

Lafayette Ron Hubbard made more money.

This whole coup episode has more murk to it than can be fit into one single swamp. Gulen is controversial (So much for being protected by the very "top"). Erdogan is another greedy, power-mad would-be-despot. As always, its the little people getting crushed.

Does Turkey (other than the Kurds) have the same divisive sunni/ wahabbi as ksa ?...Who knows, maybe this is all a ksa trying to bide time on the 9/11 issue...Release the fookin Kraken already.
    The timing is weird.

The state of Turkey has many religious beliefs present amongst its inhabitants, including Christians.

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/663089/Islamist-Turkey-Erdogan-seize-Christian-churches-Diyarbakir-persecution-state-property

Doesn't prevent the state from trying to oppress minorities for whatever reason.

Of course, with the coup, that is now forgotten...

Mixed reports that as many as 14 ships of the Turkish navy are still 'missing' (in as far as any ship can go missing in the Bosphorus). Not much talk of size or complement but could lead to an awkward scenario or two.
