During WW II, my father was awarded a US Army Marksmanship Badge with bars for Carbine and Pistol-D. He does not recall what the "D" stood for on the Pistol bar. Does anyone know what it meant? Thanks. Bill G.
Bill: I found your inquiry 9½ years after you posted it. The US Army PISTOL-D and PISTOL-M qualification bars were used only from SEP 1922 to APR 1948. The PISTOL-D was awarded for dismounted pistol qualification. The PISTOL-M bar was for qualification while mounted on a horse (a rather challenging accomplishment). I found the info on this useful website: http://emersoninsignia.net/files/Download/5presentShooting.pdf ---Allen Brown, MAJ, USAR (Ret.)
