Don´t know where I´ve actually read this, but is it true that you get the US-Citizenship for joinig the US-Army and serving one year in Iraq ? Che.
I'd suggest checking the various US military sites, last I checked you cannot join the US military without US citizenship, and the military themselves cannot help you there. In any case Iraq or Afghanistan is a posting and as such not something you can volunteer for until you are already a serving member of the armed forces. If you are seriously considering such a move, talk to the embassy first, they'll be able to give you more accurate (And legal) advice than sites such as this.
sounds like the romans of old.....its a better way to show that you want to join the country then taking some lousy test
Che: Easy enough entry to the USA across the border from Mexico. Don't bother with pesky details like passports and drivers' license. Odds are we'll even pay for any medical care you might need. Hang around, get a job, have some kids... join the Army. Tim
The way I understand it is that you will need to have applied for US citizenship before you can join the military. You do not need to be an official citizen but a legal immigrant. The US military has quite a few Africans and Asians in the service. I'm not sure if it will allow one to gain citizenship faster.
. I'm not sure but I got this vague idea from somewhere that some non-citizens green card holders can apply to joint the armed forces . .
Actually I don't think that's strictly true, IIRC citizens of Commonwealth countries are able to join the armed forces of other Commonwealth countries within having to change their nationality.
lol, I didn´t want to join the US-Army, however would be nice to spend some time in the USA. Just want(ed) to know if this really works, ha ! But if I want to, I would prefer Tims way
Seeing the recruitment problems it seems probable. I've heard of non-us military soldiers being killed in Iraq.
Those soldiers were legal immigrants, though; there is no way for illegal immigrants to enlist. The military does background checks on all potential recruits; does anyone here believe for a moment that an illegal alien would take such a risk of discovery?
I think that's a good idea. We should take all the illegals we can capture and put them in a division. Then we can send them Iraq. After a year, let them have full citizenship.
We could always ship them to Canada. I have nothing at all against immigrants, they just to be legal about it. For those who don't know, illegal immigration has become a really sore subject in the US.
haha, give em a warning. george lopez said the difference between a hispanic and iraqis is that the iraqis eyebrows are attached, lol
i think a gaul ,german, spaniard ,ect ...could gain roman citizenship after a ten year hitch in the legion ..seems like a perfectly senseble thing to me for the us military today in light of recruitment problems ,,,
To earn Roman citizenship one had to serve twenty years as a footsoldier or twenty-five in the cavalry.
