Thanks to ebay finally ( after about 18 months fruitless searching at airshows and aerojumbles ) got hold of an unmade Tamiya 1/48 617 Lancaster. At not too daft a price ! (I've given up on about three which have gone for over 80 quid  ! ).

At this stage it's nice just to look at the box - what on earth am I going to do if I build it :( ? Look for a bigger house with a dedicated 'Lancaster Room', maybe ;) ?

    ( PS : Why don't Tamiya just re-release it  ? )

My dad has some unassembled 1/72 aircraft models from airfix, lindbergh, revell etc, they are from the sixties. I wonder how much they're worth these days. ;)

    regards

A few weeks ago, one of the very first ever 'Airfix' kits appeared on ebay - it was a 1/72 Spitfire from the 1950s, in its original little bag, unmade.

And after a 'bidding frenzy' (which didn't include me !) it went for 128 pounds ( yes, you read it right - one hundred and twenty eight pounds  ! ).

I'm really not sure at the moment, Erich.

Last month a really superb article appeared in 'Scale Aviation Modeller' by a guy called Randy Lutz who spent six months making up a Tamiya 'Lanc' to an incredible standard. One of those mouthwatering articles with loads of colour pics, making you think 'I'd love to have a go at that...'

Anyway, for sure the kit decals are universally agreed to be useless so I guess I now have to find some out-of-production Aeromaster sets

Back to the internet! Meantime, I can just sit and gloat over the box.... ;) :D

No, it was the Nov 2002 issue - as I'm not an avid modeller, I don't get SAM on a regular basis, but I do admire it as a magazine. It's definitely one for the real enthusiast.

Back to the Lancaster - 'boring' choice I'm afraid, but it's got to be AJ-G, Gibson's ED932.

( Some consolation for the 'real thing' being scrapped on 29th July 1947 - IMHO one of the greatest acts of aviation vandalism of all time ).

Anyhow, it'll be a nice long-term project for the 60th Anniversary year, and a 'Flightpath' photo-etch detail kit has just arrived, with some 'Belcher Bits' on order from Canada.

    This is good fun.... [IMG]

    Mystery solved, Erich !

Neil's Fw190 article appeared in the November issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine ; the Lutz Lancaster article was in Scale Aviation Modeller ! Confused ? ?

    You bet ! ;)

    ( Lovely 190 artwork, btw  )
