Hi, I'm Gareth, 46 from Coventry. When I was a kid, everybody's dad and grandad had a story to tell about the war whether it was was from service, building aeroplanes or watching Coventry burn, so I guess ww2 has always been part of my life. But now the grandads have gone, and the dads are going too. I found my way here because I want to learn more; there's so much I don't know about how the whole thing played out and I think that, particularly given where I'm from, I owe it to my son and later grandchildren, to be able to accurately recount the events of the war. I guess my primary interest is the events following D Day, but I know a bit about that so will probably be looking to learn more about the events both in Europe and Asia that led to the start of global war, and how the war played out on the eastern front. More than anything, I'm keen to establish an opinion on Stalin, and gain an insight into his motives. That's the heavy stuff said, thanks for having me, hope I can have some laughs with you too. Thanks, Gaz.
Hi Gareth. There's a lot that happened in the 30s in both Europe and Asia that led to the fighting. There is some debate about when the war began, especially in Asia, but also in Europe. Pose some specific questions and we'll do our best to answer them. We have some very knowledgeable members who would only to be too willing to answer them or direct you to further information. In the meantime, I would suggest you read some of the threads on the pre-war happenings. Have fun looking around.
