Das Boot would be my choice.
The B/W the Dambusters is worth a mention.

Most war films tend to be to heavy on the patriotic bull **** something I find hard enough to stomach when it British bull.

    Worst war film I've seen.

Pearl Harbour, everyone involved in that film should be strapped to a Japanese bomber and dropped on an American Battleship from a great height.

When Trumpets Fade, without doubt, though I judge Das Boot to be of an entirely different class of movie. I'm glad someone else has seen When Trumpets Fade, the more the better.

I'm not even going to link to our old Best WW2 Movie topic, we'll just do it again here for the new members. :D

No one favorite. I like most of them. The more detailed the better.

Band of Brothers, Saving Pvt Ryan, A Bridge Too Far, Cross of Iron, Enemy At The Gates, To Hell And Back, The Big Red One, The Longest Day, Kelly's Heroes, Tobruk, Bridge Over The River Kwai, Stalag 17, The Desert Fox, Murphy's War, Hell In The Pacific, They Were Expendable, In Harm's Way, The War Lover, The Great Escape, The Cockleshell Heroes, Midway, Tora-Tora-Tora, and others I can't remember the names of.

    My favorites:
    Das Boot
    Saving Pvt. Ryan
    Patton

Most Hollywood type movies are dramatic but not very factual.
Movies like Midway are factual but not the best drama.
Some are pure claptrap like The Thin Red Line and Enemy at the Gates.

I usually judge the last one as to be mostly ridiculous but having some very realistic scenes that make up for it. At least for once it shows the Russian army at work, which is after all what defeated the Germans on land. Compared to the Eastern Front, the West was a sideshow; in Hollywood it is vice versa.

Saving Pvt. Ryan is probably the most Unrealistic WW2 movie ever !! I can't understand how any WW2 enthusiast can like it ! (Its all so bloody Biased)

In contrast "Enemy at the Gates" is very realistic, but is based on an unture story.

I myself think SPR is the most realistic from a combat point of view. All other movies pale in comparison. An excellant effort was made as far as equipment, setting and props.I think it raised the level as far as WWII movies go.

If so few Rangers could do what those did in the MOVIE, then there would have been almost no Allied casualties in Normandy.

In the town where the last battle accures, the Germans are unrealistically stupid, and litterally walk into the bullets ! There's one scene where 2-3 Germans get shot by the 30.cal, and yet the 5-6 men behind those men dont stop to shoot back, no no they keep running in exactly the same line ! Hollywood when its at its worst !
