Of the countless docu's I've seen of WWII, several show AH speaking with Mussolini (more specifically Mussolini 1944 getting off train following liberation by Hitler; pre-War conference but I forgot the name right now where Hitler and Mussolini were present) I haven't noticed any translators in frame, or anywhere for that matter and it appears they are no doubt communicating with each other! I've done google searches on this issue but have found no real concrete evidence. Does anyone know who spoke what language? If you have any other interesting info on any other world war II leaders and languages they spoke please do tell. For some reason I have extremely interested in this topic. thanks.
Hitler could only speak German..meaning.."Artifical German". (For the public) He mixed German with, or let me say added the typical Bavarian strong pronounciation of the "R" wich makes German words sound agressive - he added to this theatrical speech lessons in view to pronouncing words longer or pausing _ within the word. Example: Erbarmungslos - mercyless, which he theatricaly pronounced then as Eerrr_baaarrmunggsloss As for Mussolini; He spoke German quite well Regards Kruska
Interesting, yes I've heard this about Hitler's extremely thick Austrian accent. Where did you hear this about Mussolini knowing German? So I should assume in every film clip of them speaking together that it's Mussolini speaking German to Hitler?
Bavaria is in Germany, not Austria. As for Mussolini speaking German, well he was an European. Not uncommon to know many languages if your an european. I know 6 3/4 languages, 7 if I'm shitfaced. German, French, Spanish and naturally English have been common. For costal people, Portugeese has influenced alot aswell due to trade.
Correction, as far as his publc speeches go (I never heard him speak privatly) he never used Austrian - he disliked Austria for what it was and represented. Therefore and also due to the speech impact he mixed in Bavarian to the German language. Bavarian and Austrian is totally different in sound and pronunciation. That Mussolini spoke German is known - I know about that through publications. Regards Kruska
Oh you've never heard Hitler's conversational tone?? Boy, do I have a treat for you. Check out this BBC Documentary labeled "Hitler Speaks", VERY fascinating.. I loved it. (u can salute me later ))) History, Politics, Documentary, “Hitler speaks” – Hitler’s private movies
Sorry that link doesn't work - maybe because of me being in China. BTW, even though only seperated from Bavaria by a small river, people in Braunau speak Austrian! Regards Kruska
Hitler's pilot von Below's biography, he makes note of Mussolini speaking German. There are other readings noting Mussolini's use of German, English and French http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTXhez2mNmM
A interpreter ? ( thats what google translate gave me ) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2763127556620650689# He says ' When hitler came to power in 1931 ' What the ...
Hmm.. maybe he just meant "came to power" in the more broader sense of the expression, perhaps, and not necessarily when the Nazi party took the Reichstag. Precisely what time in the video is that mentioned?
WOW very impressive rare video there!! I can't believe how well he speaks English! Good find PnzrJgr!!
I'm not sure what is meant there either, but 1931 is the wrong year for either the NSDAP or Hitler. The highest total vote total his PARTY ever received was in the vicinity of 44% of the open vote in 1933. His PARTY was the largest party SEATED in the Reichstag after the "Wall Steet Crash" and the early 1930 election. They had moved up from 2 or 3% of the seats to nearly 34% of the seats, the NSDAP never ever received even a simple majority of the popular vote, when semi-open voting was allowed. In the 1928 elections the NSDAP only captured 2.6% of the popular vote, and seats in the Reichstag. In 1932 elections they picked their total up to 33.1% and became the largest single party in the Reichstag with 230 seats. In no single election did the NSDAP capture more than 44% of the vote. It went sort of like this (first year they stood for national position): 1924-6%, 1928-2.6%, 1930-18.3%, 1932-33.1%, and in 1933-43.9%. In February 1932, feeling that his party might be strong enough, Hitler figured he should run against Hindenburg in the forthcoming Presidential election, but unfortunately he was not yet a German citizen. He repaired that little problem only on February 25th. He had always been an Austrian, and had to get a royal dispensation from the Austro-Hungarian throne in order to enlist in the Bavarian Volunteers. But when Hitler himself stood against Hindenburg the result was less than a "sweeping" public endorsement ! The election of March 1932 awarded Hindenburg 49.6% of the vote, and Hitler 30.1%. There were two or three other candidates who absorbed the remaining votes. In a "run-off" election between Hindenburg, Hitler and only one other candidate, Hitler again lost to Hindenburg; 36.8 to 53%. The Nazis (after a slight decline in seat numbers in the previous election) were still the largest single PARTY elected in the July 1932 elections, the Nazi Party won 13,745,000 votes which gave them 230 out of the 608 seats in the Reichstag. Although the Nazis were the largest party, they were far short of a majority. However with Herman Goering as President of the Reichstag (sort of like America’s Speaker of the House), they could bring the government and its legislation to a halt by walking out and not voting, but the Nazis still did NOT control the Reichstag in the manner needed (2/3) for a legal constitutional change.
I Dont think there's any "record" of them, so to speak, the dubbing was done strictly for the documentary, I presume. If there is any "record" of them it would be at that Revealed production company I would think?!? ...But the real interesting part of the video is when you hear Hitler's conversational tone with the secretly-recorded conversation with Finland's Minister in the train carriage that Hitler didn't know was being done. That was great... EDIT: Do you mean the Fuhrer's home videos done by Eva Braun??? U can download those from YouTube if u wanted to..
