    Some interesting stuff...

Finnish volunteer photos, invitation paper to the choosing of the Finnish volunteers to the German Army ( not yet chosen ) and an original mini flag of the Finnish regiment.[IMG]

I picked up a Belgian M1889/36 Short Rifle. These were put into service with the Belgian Army just before the war to supplement the M1935s. This one is in good shape and perfectly shoot-able. Its hard to find anything from the pre-war period over here, and this is one of the rarer items. Pictures to follow.

Thanx Skipper! Did you know that the Finns hoped to get their volunteers until the "end" to be part of Wehrmacht not waffen-SS? Also during the recruiting volunteers who were stamped being politically too right wing extremists were not included, which I think was the opposite in other countries. The idea was to choose a professional but unpolitical group and the Finnish regiment was also ended in may 1943 when Mannerheim said he needed all his men on our front.

I wasn't aware of the specificity of the recruitng of those volunteers. That makes the document even more interesting.

That's a Mannlicher fitted system right? Nice Mauser. Is it dated? They had them in use until the 1950s if I remember correctly.

I have two on display and use to other ones when I need to pile up wood at the back of my garden at a place I do not have electricity. These lamps were used by the Luftwaffe for guard shifts , for patrols and to illuminate runways. The lid warms up really fast and is very convenient when you have cold hands in the snow.
