As far as I can tell, the Medium Tank Mk B Whippet was the first to have the engine in its own compartment - did this reduce the effect of noise and fumes on the crew and if so how much did it improve the crews effectiveness?

Could a seperate engine compartment have been used in the earlier rhomboidal battletanks and if so, would increased crew effectiveness have had any effect on battles they were used in?

Apparently the Mk A Whippet was to have a rotating turret but this was changed to a fixed barbette to speed up its introduction - would a rotating turret have improved its effectiveness and how easy would it have been to fit one to the battletanks - the MkV did introduce a cupola for increased visibility for the commander.

IIRC, the french FT-17 was the first tank to have it's own compartment.
