WTF? "Copyright British Pathe"? Those films are public domain.

Yeah ! And I tried to post a couple of the video's but they're not "youtube" or Google. That or I've regressed back to computer illiteracy, which is more likely the case. Thanks Mike & O.P. for the :S!

I did find this one on youtube:

A few thousand gigabytes of public domain footage.

The Pathe footage is mainly that shot by combat Cameramen during the war and ALL of it is in The IWM Film Archive. The IWM footage though is still on the original film reels. If you get a copy from the IWM they make it by transfer to VHS tape. The Pathe stuff has all been digitised and is much clearer than anything you buy from the IWM.

    I SHALL RETURN!
But it might be a while. Just bookmarked the HyperWar link and since that is the best site I've ever seen (okay after this one), I may get lost in time. I see another late night on the Horizon.

Just buy a computer, get a T3 line, and use a site extractor program to download the whole thing. Come back in a month and it will be done.

A T3 line is basically a "business connection", much higher through-put than most home connections. You'll need that.

A website extractor program is simply a way to download an entire website. One of these bots hits my site about once a day. I highly approve of this as the intent of the sites is to get the documents into the hands of people and out the dusty vaults.

Even with a T3 connection it will take a while.

A T3 is 45 meg and is quite expensive.

Okay, thanks. And since I actually prefer to sit back and hold what I'm reading ( a book), I'll have to buy a few dozen reams of printer paper, extra ink, a second printer, and I'll be all set. I printed out a thesis and another paper a friend had emailed that he turned in at NPS and now have those hard copies in my collection, so what's another thousand pages or so?

Gary's pretty special. He has one tooth left. No kidding. They fell out one after the other and instead of getting them pulled he is just waiting for that last one to go before getting dentures.
