Hi All - I am new to this forum but I joined because I need some expert help in identifying a few images. This is my second post as I posted a thread related to Small Arms in the appropriate forum The following images are of 2 stamps, that are actually not stamps but propaganda labels, issued somewhere in Europe in support of, I believe, Anti-Communist resistance after WWII in Albania. The text roughly translates to "Committee of the Resistance" and SHQIPNIJA is a Northern Albanian spelling of Albania that is rarely used. Although the labels probably never set foot in Albania itself, I was wondering if the aircraft depicted on these 2 stamps are based on real aircraft of the day? - Or do they appear just to be generic drawings: Stamp 1 Stamp 2 Thanks! Eric
Thats great! - Thanks all. I assume the 247 is the same as the C-47? If this is correct, it makes perfect sense. I "think" these stamps were printed in Italy (I don't know though) - And whoever the Italian artist was, would have possibly seen C47's because the allies were making Air Drops into the Balkans out of southern Italy starting in 1944 (I think anyway) Here is a link to a PDF about army air force role in the Balkans: http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA433268 And then later, the CIA Subversion Operation (BGFIEND) to deliver anti-communist propaganda to the Albanians also used these planes: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:cia.gov+bgfiend+%22C-47%22
No, no no. The C-47 was a military version of the Douglas DC-3, which was a direct competitor of the Boeing 247. The DC-3 was a much better plane and led to Boeing stopping production of the 247
