    That's it Urgh
    (both times)

    It is also an American Award, but the British used this one for the Navy and is comparable with the Military Cross for the Army and Distinguishe Flying Cross for the RAF.

    Your turn Urgh

    Yep, this stutter, everything comes out twice...

    Had to look up the DSC, was news to me too.

    OK, which British Royal was the cause of many Royal Navy deaths in October 1942, and why?

    Would the "Royal" be the liner "Queen Mary"
    because on the 2nd October 1942 she accidentally rammed and sank the AA cruiser CURACOA with the loss of over 300 men off the coast of Ireland.

    Who can name the submarine which holds the record for being the only submerged submarine to sink a submerged enemy submarine.

    Hms Triton did a good one in September 39, Sunk Hms Oxley...

    Suppose they werent enemies though...not sure if they were submerged either..

    Hello folks [IMG]
    Answers to replies so far;

    C. Evans
    USS Bowfin is credited with sinking a Japanese frigate and 44 merchant ships, but no submarines

    urgh;
    U-36 and HMS Oxley were both on the surface when sunk ( or should that be, before they were sunk :confused: )

    This is NOT the right answer, but in trawling around the internet for the correct answer ( which I can't find ! :mad: ) I found out about the O-21 sinking the U-95 near Gibraltar.

    Now, I never knew that a Dutch submarine sank a U-Boat, or even in fact that there were any Dutch submarines.

    Thanks for the clarification Redcoat.

    Ryan--I dont recall U 181 ever sinking another sub--I can check the Verlag book I have and see if there is any mention of a Doris--since I finally refound my Uboat book. :D I had thought it was long lost or in storage but--I looked at it in amazement yesterday. :D

    FYI--there are only 7 U 181 vets still living including only one officer who was U 181s Engineering Officer. :(

    I know of only three cases where U-boats sank RN submarines, U-181 was not one of the three.

    HMS Doris :confused:
    I have found only one HMS Doris. An armoured cruiser of WW1 vintage, she was scrapped well before WW2

    The answer is ;
    HMS Venturer, which on the 9th February 1945 sank the German U-boat U-864 ,off the coast of Norway while both submarines were submerged
    The Venturer had also sank the U-771 on the 11th November 1944, but this ship was surfaced at the time
    During ww2 RN submarines sank 35 enemy submarines, the highest total of any of the submarine fleets

    Ok, lets have a aircraft question now.
    The Royal Canadian Air Force had only one confirmed victory in North American airspace during WW2. Who was the pilot, what was the date, what unit, what type of aircraft was he flying, and what type of aircraft did he shoot down?
    Have fun :D :D ;)
