Where did Yamamoto die, I know he was shot down by us P-38's but I can't find out what airfield those aircraft operated from. I think it was Henderson Field, can anyone verify that??

    Thanks in advance.

Right you are Peppy! P38's from Henderson Field, on Gudalcanal. It was sometime in '43 but I'm not sure of the exact date.

    Hope that helped.

Yamamoto's aircraft and his escort were shot down on 18th April over Bougainville, at the northern end of the Solomon Island chain.

I love a guy that quotes his sources. There really arent enough people that do that in forums like these. What I find humorous is a post that is obviously written right out of a textbook and the writer makes no mention of a source, acting as if it were their own information. Thanks a lot Rich!
