    Sequim pioneer John Kirner dies

John Kirner, Sequim pioneer and Sequim Irrigation Festival 2007 grand marshal died Tuesday, June 26. He was 102 years old.

Kirner grew up in the Dungeness Valley milking cows and working on various farms to save money for college. He attended the University of Washington, majoring in accounting and minoring in economics before joining the Army Transport Service during World War II. Upon his return home, Kirner bought 160 acres of land and settled on the peninsula for good.

Kirner is survived by his wife of eight years, Lauri Foy. A complete obituary will be available in the Sequim Gazette next week.
