I intentionally made this a seperate thread from the original Charlton Heston thread because of the subject matter. So any Moderator who might read this, please keep this seperate and please do not merge this with the other thread about Charlton Heston.

Did you know????

Did you know that Charlton Heston was originally slated to play the part that John Wayne played (Paratroop Colonel Benjamin Vandervoort) in: The Longest Day? The reason why Heston did not get "the job" was due to scheduling conflicts and also that John Wayne, was always first choice but held out due to a mistake made in his contract.

Also....

Charlton Heston missed out on playing the role of: Colonel Jim Bowie (that role went to Richard Widmark) in John Wayne's movie: The Alamo? The reason being, was that that role was also offered to Richard Widmark and whose schedule was not as hard (at that time) to work with. Sooooooooo, as they say, the rest is history.

Apparently both Duke and Heston really wanted to do a movie or two together, but neither ones schedules permitted that to happen. I would have loved to see them make a few Westerns.

Yeah, nice dialogue!

- "From my cold, dead hands!"

Hi Scott, yep, I fully agree. Either way, I like both actors equally, who played or wanted to play the Bowie role.

Strange comparison of quotes. The first is From The Train Robbers and was said by Kirk Douglas and the second was from Hestons speech at an NRA function.

I don't get the comparison?
