We (Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc.) recently completed a remote sensing survey and diver investigation of select anomalies in Saipan. This project, conducted for the CNMI Historic Preservation Office (under a grant from the NPS), was the first of its kind in Saipan. We systematically surveyed the Invasion Beaches and surrounding areas associated with the Battle of Saipan (1944).

Please take some time to view some of the wrecks, vessels, AMTRACS, and plane wrecks we found...Here is a link to our project log:

I understand the value of these forums and we are asking for anyone interested to contact us with knowledge about the various vessel types we found, vessel histories, battle histories, sources, photographs, etc... I am sure some of these wreck sites will look familiar to those familiar with WWII material.

We appreciate the help and look forward to comments regarding our work in Saipan...
