I took picture of two items I can't seem to figure out what they are. One looks like a flag/crest that was riped off of something and the other is a medal on the front it says "Wilhelm Der Grosse Deutscher Kaiser" and I can't make out from the picture what it says to the right. Anyone know? Thanks for your help. DK
My slight familiarity with German is enough for the medal. It gives the Imperial and Royal titles of Wilhelm I: "Wilhelm the Great, Emperor of Germany," and on the right "King of Prussia." It's a lovely medal, high-relief, cast either in bronze and gold-plated, or in solid gold. It's worth a pretty penny just as metal in the later case, but worth more as an antique I'm sure. It almost certainly dates back to Wilhelm I's reign, which ended with his death in 1888. I suggest you get it appraised by a specialist--it may be worth enough to require a rider to your insurance. Can't help you with the flag, I'm afraid....
The medal appears to be a commemorative piece to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kaiser Wilhem's birth. It likely dates to 1897, as indicated in this eBay listing. PRE WW1 PRUSSIAN KAISER WILHELM 1 CENTURY MEDAL (L492) - eBay (item 350085724325 end time Aug-10-08 21:45:00 PDT)
