Hello!

My Father served in WWII, in the Army. He was in the 96th Division, 382nd Infantry, Company E. He was the B.A.R. for his company.

I am currently trying to put together his military history, which is proving to be much more difficult than I'd anticipated.

My Father was severely wounded on Okinawa on May 16, 1945 on the hill called "Dick Right". I only heard him talk about this a couple of times. He never discussed anything else regarding his service.

I'm hoping to find some good information here.

If anyone knows of any information about my Dad's Infantry Division, or what the duties of a B.A.R. were, I'd love to hear from them. Or anything else regarding Okinawa.

Thank You!!

Gigi -- Welcome! This is a fine place and you will enjoy your time here. If you search for threads with "Okinawa" in the title, it will probably get you started on your search. You should also post your information request in the information request section of the forum.

Cheers!

Welcome Gigi, do like dgmitchell said and use the forum search ( at top: register / members / FAQ / search) and I'm sure youll find lots of information. I that will not be enough, which is likely, please feel free to reopen one of those older threads that are relevant to you.

Hi Gigi,
And welcome aboard! The WW2F is full of highly knowledgeable people on many WWII subjects. Its a great place to learn! Just doing a google on your Dad's unit:

you might have to wade around in that spot to find useful info

Here's a collection of war stories from the 96th Div

War Stories

While this book is about Love company, you might find Easy Company mentioned

Wonderful World of Mu

I felt the same way when I first found this forum. Finally, a place where all of us WW2 buffs can meet, discuss and what-not. :)
