After obtaining my Grandfather's (Stanley Davenport 7646974 - R.E.M.E. CMA) war records I was hoping to discover the what and where of his war years, but all I got was his departure for Africa in 1940 and return to England in 1945 together with his medals and a very detailed TA history.

I know that Grandpa was in the REME as a fitter and was awarded the African Star with a 1st army bar and the Italian Star. I have a picture of him in Bari, Italy 1942 and it is said that he served at Monte Cassino transporting ammunition and supplies to the front line.

The question is how do I find out which regiments he served with and wether or not he was at Monte Cassino?

Any advice, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:)

    Many thanks
    Iain
