My friend from school sent me this and it was pretty interesting. Pretty amazing (plus this is my 600th post hehe):
Thanks for the story. It's nothing new but they are finding more and digging up more and more tanks and vehicles. Good story though.
This story has been circulating around forums for years the T34 BeutePanzer was found near Johvi in 2002. It is now in bits in hidden locations !!
Is that confirmed Paul? As I seem to recall it might have been 'restored' now, sadly with all the markings lost. Maybe had a video claiming to be it now (other than the more well known ones of it's recovery), but I'd have to check. It was certainly in rusty bits for a while afterwards, with apparently no decent preservation going on. ~A
Beautiful pictures....inspiring enough for a poetic tribute.... "Times have changed, my love. The bog has kept your arse from rusting, To be pulled apart, by those you should be trusting. When last the light of day you saw, The Red Army was a fine intrument of war, And you were a mighty T-34, Designed to put the foe in a state of shock and awe, You ended at the bottom of an Estonian forrest floor... Until today, my lovely T-34! Defender of the workers, peasants and poor! Fate decreed your in end in 1944...." Copies of this mighty work can be found in the lobby as you leave the theater.
The tank is well preserved but is in bits due to the Estonian Government trying to claim the rights to it even though it was a private enterprise which pulled it out. To stop this the tank was taken apart and won't go back together until things are sorted out which will be ......... who knows !! I have been lucky enough to see some of it and it is in very good condition !!! This unfortunate situation means that othe Tanks in lakes in Estonia will be stopping where they are even though their location is known. regards Paul
I'll happily take your word for it Paul, given your local knowledge, thanks for that. It's quite a relief as the machine I saw claimed as this tank was a pretty rough restoration. Sounds entirely sensible to me, they must be safest there. Cheers, ~A
