How do you display your Militaria collection

hey guys

(i did a search and nothing came up, so excuse me if this has been brought up before)

- this is more to do with how you display your collection as opposed to the items themselves.....but i was wondering how do you gents go about displaying your militaria collections?

......do you have proper displays or are they kept in boxes?
...do you display your collection on a shelf, in a display cabinet, office space or maybe even have a "militaria room" ?

(pictures/photos are welcome)

if so what are they like? do you make your own "display cabinets" etc

when you buy a new item, do you keep your display space in mind? (size, how it will look in it? etc)

myself, being a student, i dont really have the space at the moment, but i have ideas on how i would like to display my little collection in the near future (i hope )

 

Unfortunately, like you, I have no room for displaying! It all stays in boxes

I safely store everything now and hope to get a shelving unit or glass cabinet one day...

i'm often away from home, so most of my stuff is in boxes at the moment

....i supose its safe for now, but it's hard to enjoy it when ya cant really see it

All of my collectables (not so much) besides those hanging on the walls are displayed in Cubbords (Sh..t.. how is cubboard spelled ) You know those furniture pieces standing at the wall usually containing cloth or books.

Most cub... have a glassfront and are of the same time period as most of my collectables "German Imperial stuff".

So I think that it blends in quite well.

Oh and yes, if I from time to time aquire a new piece of history I already can see its rightfull place for display even before I get it

oh i just taught of this:

for you guys that collect photos / letters & postcards / paper / award docs / soldbuchs ect...

do you have them out on display (like in a frame or album) or do you "file" them somewhere?

C U B O A R D ... thanks, my rouge face colour has just returned to it's natural caucasian blanc.

as for letters, photos, docs, etc. I usually try to frame the nice ones and others I lay into bookfiles - never glueing, clipping or attaching/fixing them in any way.

ya, that's good that nothing is ever "stuck" in place.....so it's easy to handle and no damage to the doc too.

 

This is how most of my autographed photos are displayed. I still have about 100 to put in the album when I get more pages. I only use the PVC free pages so no damage will happen to the photos.

 

I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now. Right now they are in boxes but I have been looking at china cabinets the kind with a light in them.

Yes it is! there was a real nice one in an antique shop the kind with the rounded glass but no light it was oak it was almost 500.00 usd. hows it going Andy?

 

Thank you Andy! I probably have about 350-400 photos all together.

Some of my other items are in a small section of a china cabinet. Most everything else is in boxes and the uniforms are stuck in bags in the closet.... This is my little section in the cabinet. Don`t pay any attention to the models. I put those together about 30 years ago.

 

sounds nice jason.....maybe you could sort out a light for it?

ya i like what kruska said about perhaps using an old cuboard or antique cabinet for his collection to reflect the historical items contained within it

im not too bad myself jason....plenty of rain here though

you got a few nice items there on show....i like the wound badge (is it black - hard to tell from the photo because your "tank commander" is in the way ) and the sholderboards too

all on display andy,guns,helmets,and awards,no point having a collection stuck away and never seen till you dig them out.this is how I display helmets,ray..
