I've no clue except the lid has "Plas" painted on it. I guess it could have been a crate that carried bottles of Plasma-or maybe even Plastique Explosives???? Dunno, my thinking on it only gets that far.

In one of the pictures the top of the crate is clearly painted : "PLAST 808"

A quick "Google" of: "PLAST 808" revealed

    Hoipe that helps............cool box

Hmm , I believe I've seen those before. They look like the British boxes of explosives that were dropped to the Resistance and Soe forces in France prior to the D-Day invasion

I thought it may have carried plastiqe explosives because it said "Plas 808". This was found in the place where we keep the wood for the winter. The house was build by my family in 1914(The same year my grandfather was born) and my father own it now. I have found a couple items from world war 2 there. Such as: a german ammobox, a lot of Krag Jørgensen rounds and that crate. I have also been told that my grandfather kept a box full of stuff for the war(2 of my uncle's has told me that) There should also bee a german bayonett up under the roof where we keep the wood, but it has most likely been stolen or moved.

You were right to ask this. Markings are often obvious, but sometimes too obvious and lead to a wrong track. Better a few confimrations than misidentifying an item.

The key is in the stencilling.........If it contained M-1 Bandoleers it would say so.

Skipp is right these boxes contained Palstique 808 and were labeled either "Explosive 808" or "PLAS 808" . If you look at the article I linked you will find that some were shipped to the US witht he designation that is on his particular box.
