Hello guys iv been collecting mostly german militaria for a long time.I have about 30 german helmets from many battlefields in relic condition, also old mausers ,and british rifles from ww1.I have only one repro which i bought recently, and its a german para helmets in sand camo with a repro cover ,and decals ,all in 70 £s which because i think it is quality made was worth it.Would be interested to hear from any guys in to relics, and particularly german helmets !
Would love to see some pictures, i have alot of rust in my collection too, im most likely going away this weekend, but when i get back, ill post some pics...
I remember that collection well, Martin. It brings back fond memories of our afternoons relic hunting in the Falaise Gap. Do you also remember this item that was given to me by a french farmer? He claimed it was from a german tank (allemand char), but I still haven't been able to confirm this? Anybody care to identify it?
I do indeed remember that - the farmer came rushing over to us as we stood at the crossroad near Moissy Ford. We rather hoped he'd come up with an MG42 or Panzerschreck or something ; the disappointement was intense ! I've often wondered about it since and am no closer to any sort of identification ....
Looks like something from a (for lack of proper words at this time) looks like something from a small anti-personnel mine. Possibly from a "Bouncing Betty?" That's as far as my thinking on it goes.
Thanks for the suggestion, Carl. The farmer seemed to by trying to say that it was part of some sort of antenna or aerial ?
He also said that it was 'from a German tank' but we reckoned that just about everything found thereabouts was described like that.....it's quite heavy and we couldn't make out any markings......
I don't know but, looking at it again, your guesses on it are probably much better than mine could be ;-)) Is that a piece of ribbon ro cloth on it? I can't see what purpose it would have on an Antenna? And those wierd "curly" things on top?? perhaps somekind of terminal posts or something????
This was one of my thoughts when I first saw it. It does indeed look like some sort of cable support. The base is hollow and maybe once had a wooden pole inserted in to it. The piece of attached material seems to be rubber like and is still pliable.
Hi John, Hmmm, I just can't think of anything that material could be used for or what reason its on this item to begin with. Is this item destined to become the 9th Wonder of the World? ;-))
