"When Leo Enlund of Culver and his Army buddies returned to America aboard a troop ship at the end of World War II, they expected to be met by crowds of cheering, thankful people. Instead there wasn’t a soul waiting for them. It took nearly 64 years, but on a recent trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., Enlund received some of the attention he expected after serving as an infantryman in the Pacific Ocean. Enlund, 88, wore his old sergeant’s uniform to the memorial so family members could take his picture. But family members weren’t the only ones interested in getting a picture of a World War II veteran."
