Its closer to 3 or 4 seconds - count and you will see. Longer if you count from when the ref blows his whistle I think.
"The Book of Heroic Failures" has this to say on the fastest goal scored in a professional soccer match.....(from page 72) THE WORST SAVE This honours falls to Senhor Isadore Irandir of the Brazilian team Rio Preto who let a goal in after three seconds. From the kick off in the soccer match between Corinthians and Rio Preto at Bahia Stadium, the ball was passed to Roberto Rivelino who scored instantly with a left foot drive from the half-way line. The ball went past the ear of Senhor Irandir, while he was on his knees finishing his pre-match prayers in the goal-mouth. Just for laughs, it might be nice to give you another snippet from Stephen Pile's masterpiece of books..... THE WORST SOCCER TEAM Thanks to the tremendous enthusiasm of boys, this is one of the most hotly contested categories. In 1972, the Norwich Nomads seemed to have it sewn up after a splendid season during which they lost all twenty of their games in the Norwich Boys League, scoring eleven goals and letting in 431 ( an average of 21.55 goals let in per game). Their mantle was taken over in the 1983 season by the Worthing Boys club under-12 team which lost all 18 of their games, scoring only 6 goals for an impressive 647 against, (an average of 35.9 goals let in per game.) Widely hailed as the worst team in the country, they were given the annual Worthing award by the Mayor for generating national interest in the town. Five years later, they still had not won a single match. THE LEAST ENTHUSIASTIC SOCCER TEAM Blackburn Rovers showed definate sporting reluctance in their game against Burnley in 1891. In almost perfect conditions (it had been snowing heavily for three hours before kick-off and few fans bothered to turn up). Blackburn let in goals every quarter hour and were three nil down at half time. When the interval went on an unusually long time, it became clear that Blackburn Rovers did not want to come back out at all. Eventually, their team straggled onto the pitch, but the crowd could not help noticing that there were only seven of them. Ten minutes later, Lofthouse of Blackburn had smacked the face of the Burnley captain, who retaliated with a punch. Both players were sent off. Feeling that this was an extremely good idea, the entire Blackburn team decided to follow them with the exception of the goalkeeper, Mr. Arthur, who remained at his post. The referree, Mr. Clegg, waited a few moments in the hope that Blackburn might reappear. When they failed to do so, the game restarted with the entire Burnley team bearing down upon Mr.Arthur. Nichol scored, but Mr.Arthur successfully claimed that it was "offside", and the referree abandoned the match. The Blackburn captain later claimed that this was not a protest against Lofthouse being sent off. They simply wanted to join him and were quite happy for Burnley to have the two points.
