As US troops crossed into Germany, General Eisenhower gave his men strict orders to stay away from the locals. But thousands struck up relations with German women, and many of them fathered children they never knew.

Not very surprised, I'm sure armies occupying Germany after the war especially the US and Canada got a bit more since those lands were virtually untouched by war and a perfect spot to build a new life as the old was most likely destroyed.

I just feel sorry for all those soldiers be they German, American, British, etc who returned home to find their wife, children, etc gone after wooing a soldier or two.
