    Info Please,
can any one tell me what formation this relates to,tearing whats left of my hair out, found some teasers like heavy anti aircraft Royal Marines, could belong to the 1st Brigade, but after long searches, nothing definitive, some family photos have been passed to us,and this was written on the back along with a name L Pointon he was a Sgt and served with my wifes grandfather John Gilford, from the photos there was tank recovery and desert patrols, even some at the pyramids and the Nile, would like to find out more, or all, so I can research further.
as they say thanks in advance

    Hi Sparkie,

I have just registered with this forum. My grandfather was in D Battery 1st HAA Regmt and was a sergeant in charge of number 3 naval gun and a crew of 14 men at the time of Sept 1944. He passed away ten years ago and i now possess a diary that recounts from Sept 44 to the time Hitler died and his journey from Cherbourg through Belgium and Holland. I aslo have his service record and information regarding a reunion of D Battery held in Glasgow in 1958. It lists all of the men and L Pointon is on it. The address against him is 30 Fletcher Road, Stoke on Trent. I have just started my investigation into my grandfathers location throughout the war and am due to visit The Imperial War Museum soon to speak with researchers. I know from stories he told me that he was in egypt and ceylon as well during the war and i have quite a few old photos and postcards. I can see the message you left was in Mar 2010 but would love to hear from you.

    Rgds

I did not see the original posters post. I know nothing that can help or assist either of you, but would advise you both to register at our sister forum ww2 talk. Sounds like I'm recruiting but I'm not. Both forums are owned by the same guy Otto. The talk forum is more British Commonwealth orientated. And as well as their great research knowledge...they would be as interested in your posts there as here.
