My Great Uncle wus Merchant Navy, torpeoded off Barbados Oct 39. Kept at Milag, near Westertimke, (Stalag Luft 3 ended up there!) when they were liberated in 45..............all they wanted was white bread. proper white bread! Luckily the yanks, liberated them! Set up a mobile bakery outside the camp!! 6 Years as a prisoner....................my Uncle loved the Germans. Not the Nazis, the Germans. Local farmers gave them eggs, on pain of death for god's sake!! Still gave 'em eggs!! People are good, the World over. Nutters spoil it for the rest!! My Uncle went back every few years after the war, to say thank you! (His older brother, my Grandfather, thought he wus nutz..........but he'd been at Loos, the Somme & Ypres....................) We're very similar us and the Germans.
