Anyone interested in a very well written history of Naval operations in the Mediterrean should read "With Utmost Spirit" by Barbara Brooks Tomblin.
I have been researching my brothers service aboard an LCT and was elated to find his landing craft mentioned during the the invasion of Salerno.
I'm not trying to sell books, just found it very well written and helpful.

Another good read is Struggle for the Middle Sea by Vincent O'Hara.

Thanks, I'll grab a copy. The Mediterrean is always overshadowed by the events that happened in France and points east after D-Day on June 6th. My brother still tells some harrowing stories about Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio aboard his little LCT.
