Hi Ray,

thanks for the Link! Great! It is amazing to see how the places had changed and the destroyed Abbey was reconstructed. My Grandpa was one of the Para´s at there.

Thanks for sharing Ulrich.

As I liked the there and now pics very much I decided to attempt a few of my own, the "then" are from the wonderful Panzers in Italy photobook and the color ones I shot today on my way home.

From what I see the German troops are NOT inside the Vatican City boundary, but a just few meters more ... and we wuold have another contry "invaded".

DHI doesn't ring a bell, is it Deutschen Historischen Institut ? (did a search and it was the most likely candidate).

I'm currently attempting t shake myself out of my lazy habits and start doing some original research, first on my list is the Ufficio Storico della Marina Militare that should prove interesting, the Deutschen Historischen Institut looks pretty interesting too but I don't read German so a lot of what they do is not very useful to me.

On the way of bias, toward the exit north of Cassino , the Allied Bofors cannon pointed at the sky , waiting for an unlikely German air attack .
In the background , the Rock Janula .
