Air Battle of Ploesti Ends

This day in 1944, the last bombing mission was flown to Ploesti. During the 1944 campaign against Ploesti, the 15th AF put 5154 bomber sorties over Ploesti, dropping 12,804 tons of bombs at a loss of 226 heavy bombers. Twenty-three P-38s were lost on the 10 June fighter-bomber mission. The RAF's 205 Group lost 15 heavies on 4 night missions.
