Times come and gone - Lac du Bonnet Leader - Manitoba, CA

He boarded the Queen Mary and travelled back to Europe where he accepted a position to train on Coastal Command patrolling the Bay of Biscay for submarines. The crew trained on the Sunderland EK591 aircraft, the largest boat plane during WW2 in active service. The plane was operated by a 10-man crew and could remain in the air for up to 15 hours.

When the training was complete, Joe and the 422 Squadron went on their very first operational trip where they attacked and sunk with perfection a German U-boat.
