So much of the information about WW2 is peppered with abbreviations and acronyms, and although there are many sites listing these, it doesn't seem like any have anything approaching a complete list. This thread will aim to resolve that, with a post for each letter of the alphabet which can be added to and updated as members contribute their findings.

Feel free to post any links to abbreviations etc. documents and sites, but please give them a title that clearly states what they are dealing with if it is specific. If you really want to help just post those that are missing, and in this format:

Abbreviation/Acronym - Meanings - Principal user
XXXXX - XABCDEF - US
XXXXX - XBCDEFG; XDEFGHI; XGHIJKL - UK
XXXXX - XCDEFGH - Ger

And so on.

Please try and post items in their proper/most used format - all capitals/capital and lower case/with parentheses/with or without punctuation etc.

Don't be shy about posting corrections/mistakes spotted :)

While this list is primarily aimed at WW2, abbreviations only used since can often be helpful, especially when researching, so they are not to be specifically excluded.

If you are trying to find the meaning of something that isn't in the list, please also post here and we'll see what we can find.

Hopefully we eventually end up with a list which can help all those trying to decipher the past :)

MOD NOTE: I would suggest that the abbreviation or acronym be printed in Bold Type to make it easier to see.
(Nigel I hope you don't mind me jumping in there. Lou)

Of course not Lou, jump in any time you like - good idea :)
