Our new book, "Buckingham Army Air Field" comes out on Dec. 13. It features nearly 200 archival photographs of this important WWII base near Fort Myers, Fla., home to a USAAF Flexible Gunnery School.

Highlights include photos of the Waller Gunnery Trainer - an early take on virtual reality training. Also photos of WASPs at Buckingham AAF, photos of gunnery training ranges on the ground and in the skies over the Gulf of Mexico. There are also haunting photos of the remnants of the base still found in the area today.

"Buckingham Army Air Field" is from Arcadia Publishing, a large publisher of local history books that collect and preserve photos and stories from a community's early history.

It's available for order at online sites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble and will also soon be in bookstores around Southwest Florida.

Lots of interesting photos and information are being posted at the book's Facebook page. Check it out at: World War II
