Hey everyone, glad to be here! I am 48 years old and live in rural Missouri. I have been interested in WWII history for many years. I am hoping to learn more about the war at this forum. There were 5 members of my family that served during the war, but sadly all have since passed on. At present I am trying to find any and all information about the 292nd Combat Engineer Battalion which was the unit my grandfather served with during the war. Thanks for your help!

Howdy Buk, I'll see what I can find over the weekend. If LRusso comes along before then, he probably can get you going, too.

Hi buk. Welcome to the forum. Here's what I came up with for a start:
    292nd Engineer Combat Battalion
Formed 5 Nov 1943 Camp Butner, NC
Shipped from NY 22 Oct 1944
    Arrived England 2 Nov 1944
    France - ETO 13 Dec 1944
    Central Europe and Rhineland campaigns
    Ended at Mainz Germany
Returned 2 Mar 1946 and inactivated at Camp Kilmer NJ.

Here is a link to a site on the 292nd with some photos. 292nd Engineers Combat Battalion What was your grandfather's name? Do you have any of his records? If you do, we can be of more assistance.

I can't vouch for the correctness of this, but you might try contacting this individual for information
    292nd Engineer Combat Battalion
    Mr. Vernon Gansebom
    RR1, Box 156
    Osmond, NE 68765-9633
    (402) 748-3864

    Good luck.

Thank you so much for the info. I was able to obtain a copy of my grandfather's discharge papers about a year ago. His name was (PFC) Arthur A.Clark, ser#37632172, Company A 292nd ENGR COMBAT BN, MOS Demolition Specialist 533. Any additional info you could find would be greatly appreciated.

If you can photograph the papers and post them as a high-quality image we can get more data out of it, probably.

I'll add one more Missouri greeting. Nothing as exotic as a wolf sanctuary, though that would be cool. Columbia MO, in my case. Good luck with your search and I hope you enjoy the place. I've certainly found it enjoyable.

OpanaPointer.... I have been there 3 times once at the midnight howl. Like the way our state handles conservation, one of the best.
