While it may never be matched, let alone surpassed, it was on this date in 1941 that Joe DiMaggio began his 56 game hitting streak.

I just noticed that in one of those short "This day in History" blurbs, and thought about how long that has stood and probably always will. I think the only guy who even got close was Pete Rose, and his reputation will forever be tarnished with the gambling.

Joe D. had his flaws as well, but they were not in the league of Rose, or Bonds, or others in the steroids use field.
