"THE gripping tale of how a Fishguard cobbler’s wife helped fight the French is to be recorded alongside the greatest battles in Welsh history.
Jemima Fawr, armed with just a pitchfork, helped battled invading French revolutionaries and capture 12 soldiers during the Battle of Fishguard, which was fought between February 22 and 24, 1797.
This battle is one of the many conflicts on Welsh fields likely to be included in a Register of Historic Battlefields in Wales which is being compiled by Cadw, the historic environment division of the Welsh Government."
