I have downloaded from Ancestry.com the Muster Rolls
of the USS Thomas Jefferson for June and July 1943.

The TJ participated in Operation Husky, the allied invasion
of Sicily on 10 July 1943. One of its crew, Seaman John Henry
Jones of Louisville, KY, was lost on the beaches near Scoglitti when
two landing crafts in the second wave collided, spilling GIs of the 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, into the water. Twenty-three men
    of the 157th drowned.

Samuel Eliot Morison and Rick Atkinson (citing the former) state
that 38 men drowned but they did not consult the regimental casualty
or MIA lists or the Morning Reports of E, F and H Companies, which I have.

If anyone had a relative on the TJ then, I will be glad to provide a copy
    of the Muster Roll.

    Jeff,

kerrd5 does visit often, but I'd shoot him a private message to ensure he get's your note. He might not stop in on this thread unless he's somewhat looking for it.

Since my original post, I have now determined that 25 men of the 157th Infantry Regiment drowned
during the landings on 10 July.

Seaman Jones is the 26th confirmed fatality.

The transport USS Thomas Jefferson (APA-30) has a nice wiki page (with information probably lifted from HyperWar).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Thomas_Jefferson_%28APA-30%29

I gather the Jefferson was carrying the 2d Battalion, 157th Infantry for HUSKY.

From the official history (gratis HyperWar)

Map link (45th ID bottom right):
    http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-MTO-Sicily/maps/USA-MTO-Sicily-IV.jpg

Does Morison provide any details about all the ships/craft carrying the 157th RCT? Transports, LCI's, LCT's, escorts, others?
