I am a bit surprised that no-one has posted...

the fact that this is the 66th anniversary of the first atomic bomb which was dropped on Hiroshima. Maybe we are getting far enough removed from the beginning of the nuclear age that its opening shot looses a little of its awe.

I hope not, I pray that the only two used on an enemy population, either military or civilian will be the only two ever used for the purpose.

 

Seen the "Anniversary" at History Channel a few minutes ago. Hopefully we don´t need such weapons again.

 

Probably Clint...because we know what any such thread may do...going by past history.

 

The US spends 50 billion dollars a year on its nuclear arsenal alone, aside from any other defence spending. As far as I know it's not even up for senate debate.

 

How about you start a diffrent thread if you want to talk politics. Let's use this how how Clint intended, for remembrance.

 

I am rather surprised, since it is arguably the pivotal event of the last 100 years.

While I know the dropping of the atomic bombs has a far more significant meaning than any personal problem, my son, my only child, was killed in an accident on this day in 2008. I always equate the two events. A calamity for the world when the bombs were dropped on Japan - I do not infer any partiality in that comment, it was just a calamity that it ever came to that, whatever the reasons and whether you feel it justified, it is still a tragedy - and it was like an atomic bomb fell on me and my family that day in 2008.

Not a problem, sometimes the expansive and inclusive nature of this place can leave one thinking there was an "oversight". Sometimes there is, but not too many in this era. I personally love "too many beers", unless I wake up in a strange place without my pants.

Ahh..the little bucket of sunshine turned 66!!!! I love the bomb and I love atomic energy. Sam Colt may have made men equal; but, Robert Oppenheimer made them glow in the dark.
