Gates of Fire by Michael Yon is one amazing and unique report of combat in Iraq. Not only was Yon there and taking photos while the action happened, he ended up in the action adding an element of comedic relief to a deadly serious situation. The story is gripping and the photos are phenomenal. (Caution: some of the photos do show a fair amount of blood, so the squeamish should proceed cautiously.)

There was some talk back in 2005 of this story being the basis for a movie, but it seems that may have been all it was - talk. :( Too bad.
